ORANGE DAY CELEBRATION



Mysore, 25th November 2024, was a memorable day for all of us at Good Shepherd Convent, Mysuru. The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Girls and Women, also known as Orange Day was celebrated with much enthusiasm and pride by the students and staff of our Institution. We embarked on the initiative to "Orange the World," with a specific focus on ending violence against Girls and Women. Dr. Sonia Mandappa, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, the Chief Guest gave a powerful talk on the issues on Gender based Violence. She further stressed self safety measures, the girls and women should be aware off to prevent the dangers of the male dominated society, inspired the Students. The ASI Kumaraswamy of Lashkar Police Station in his address alerted the students and staff to be vigilant in violent situations and Cyber Crimes. Sr. Hilda John, the Manager of the Good Shepherd Schools, inspired the young students to become Change makers of tomorrow. After the formal function, A public Rally was flagged off comprising of the Students of Class VII to PU II, Staff, Dignitaries, Heads of various Schools of the Campus and the Lay Mission Partners of the Good Shepherd. The students, drew the attentions of the mob, by raising their voices, shouting out slogans of Violence against Women and Girls, which captured the eyes of the spectators on the Bangalore Mysore Road and it's surroundings. The Human Chain was formed at the St. Philomena's Church Circle proceeded through Veerangere, as well as at the Ambedkar Circle (FTS), along with the protection of the Lashkar Police and NR Traffic Police Department.
